Developing The Leader Within You

Success and Clarity

Have you ever asked yourself…

“Why am I not experiencing the level of success that I desire?”

This is a question that has probably crossed your mind once or twice. Not to worry, this is a question that most humans ask themselves everyday.  You’d be surprised that the answer to your  success isn’t as complicated as it may seem.  In fact, the answer is already planted within you. You just need to uncover it and gain clarity of your answer.

If I were to pick up the telephone and call you right now and ask “______, what would success look like in your life?”. I’d be willing to bet that you wouldn’t be able to answer the question – not immediately at least.

So, what’s the answer?

The answer is…

Successful people know exactly what it is that they desire.

It’s no wonder why people continue to struggle with the feeling of being inadequate. They simply don’t know what it is that they want.  Could you imagine driving from New York to California without a map or GPS system? Probably not! The map is your journey, the destination is your desire.

Napoleon Hill summed it up perfectly,

“There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it. “

Break this down into three steps…

1.) Determine your PURPOSE.

2.) KNOW exactly what it is that you want.

3.) Only after you do steps 1 and 2 will you light that burning desire to possess it!

It all begins with clarity!  Become clear on your desires, when you figure out the “why” the “how” will appear.

Make it happen,

Self-Talk: What Are You Feeding Your Mind?

We each have thousands of thoughts each and every day.

Don’t believe me? Listen to what you’re telling yourself right now!

Your mind is a constantly at work, it’s either working for you or working against you.  What’s even more powerful is, we all control exactly what we allow in! Your mind is similar to a computer. You are the “controller” of what you “enter” and “delete”.

It’s been said from just about every successful entrepreneur that self-talk is something that we must continually master in order to keep our minds focused on where we are going. Some of the most successful athletes of our generation were masters at self-talk. Pull up videos of Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, and Derek Jeter – you will find that they all “spoke to themselves” before each and every shot, play, and at bat.  Why did I choose the three above? Because they are all champions. In order to become a champion, you must model what champions do.

I encourage you to write a set of affirmations that tap into the truest sense of who you want to become. Write these affirmations on an index card and keep it with you everywhere you go, write these affirmations on your bathroom mirror, keep these affirmations next to your bed.

What you think about expands and becomes…

Here is a powerful affirmation from Darren Hardy, Founder of Success Magazine. When I read this, I literally called myself on my own telephone and recorded myself saying this…

“I am a smart, confident and effective leader. I seek and cultivate the strength and greatness in everyone around me. I am a Goal Setting, disciplined master of time efficiency. I focus solely on high-payoff and high-productivity actions. I wake up an hour earlier and review my priority objectives each morning. I fuel my body properly and exercise four days a week so that I am energetic and highly effective each work hour. I feed my mind ideas and inspiration that will support and bolster my passion. I surround myself with peers and mentors who elevate my expectations and prod me to rise to greater levels of discipline, commitment and achievement.”

Make a continuous effort to ask yourself…

“What am I feeding my mind?”.

I Appreciate You,

Are YOU the obstacle?

“The only thing that stands between a man and what he wants from life is often merely the will to try it and the faith to believe that it is possible” ~Richard M. DeVos

What stands between what you want in your life and what you currently have?…

YOU.

We are the only obstacle that hold ourselves back from attempting new things and stepping outside of our ego’s to experience and live those things which we desire. “That’s crap, there are plenty of other things in life that stand between where I am now and where I want to be” you may be saying. And I’m here to say, “No, not really”. Think about it, everything that you’ve REALLY, and I mean REALLY had a passion for in the past, you already posses. It all goes back to your desire and passion backed with faith and action.

What’s holding you back from taking action?

Laziness? Disbelief? Not enough time?…No, probably not…it’s FEAR.

False
Experiences
Appearing
Real

Remember the first time you tried to ride a bicycle with two wheels? What happened? I’m willing to bet that you weren’t popping 30 second “wheelie’s” your first day were you? No, you probably fell 50 to 100 times before you “got it down” to where you were riding smoothly without falling and busting your knees and elbows everyday.

How about when you first learned how to swim with out someone holding your stomach so you wouldn’t drown? Were you scared of drowning? Absolutely. Did you drown? No. I’m willing to bet that your heart rate increased just a bit, and maybe you found yourself doggie paddling for the first couple weeks so you wouldn’t be left floating face down in the pool.

My point is this…

We all have some type of fear that is holding us back from experiences in life we’ve always dreamt of having. When you learn to understand and accept that fear is a false experience and face the fear and do it anyway, you’ll start expanding your comfort zone and experiencing things that you never thought were possible.

You beat fear with faith and action. The faith to know that you’ll still be alive and ticking after you try something new. Perfect example…you’re reading this right now right? You’re alive. The action to know that life and energy is in constant movement. You’re either growing or your dying – you are NEVER still. Take action and move forward.

Also remember that thoughts become things. Not one of us can escape thought. The fact of the matter is, we all think millions of thoughts per day. Are you choosing thoughts that work for you? Or, are you choosing thoughts that work against you? The choice is yours.

Once you truly understand that YOU are the very obstacle which stands between where you are now and where you want to be, you’ll ask yourself…”What took me so long?” =)

The beauty is…there is no better time than now.

Jump in the water with two feet! Stop dipping your toes in the water.

Take action and live.

Make it a great day,
